China bids farewell to Ba Jin

SAR visas easier
A policewoman with Futian public security subbureau shows a smart card and a travel permit to Hong Kong and Macao yesterday. The subbureau initiated a do-it-yourself system with IC cards yesterday to make it easier for Shenzhen residents to apply for travel permits to the two SARs, which only takes only a few minutes. 


City on alert over bird flu
SHENZHEN will start a “carpet check” on all poultry being raised in the city to ensure that all water birds, particularly ducks, are vaccinated to prevent an avian flu outbreak.


Qing-Dynasty vase fetches record price
A HONG KONG art dealer paid a world record price of HK$115.48m (US$14.88m) for a rare Qing-Dynasty porcelain vase at auction Sunday.It was the highest price ever paid at auction in Asia for a work of art. 


More land available next year
SHENZHEN’S land and housing bureau plans to sell more land to real estate developers next year, including some land lots within the special economic zone, to curb rising property prices, a source with the bureau said yesterday.
