Florida braces for intense Wilma
IN what has become an all-too-familiar drill, Floridians boarded up windows, gassed up their cars and bought storm supplies Wednesday. But this time they were looking at one of the most intense hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic.  

Home flight
Zhang Chunxiang, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, sees off members of the Chinese international rescue team, which was heading back to Beijing, at a airport in Islamabad on Thursday. The rescue team was dispatched to the quake-hit area in Pakistan to carry out relier and medical work Oct. 10. 


China’s GDP grows 9.4%
THE Chinese economy grew a robust 9.4 percent in the first nine months as investment growth fell only slightly and exports continued to surge, a spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics announced Thursday.


Buildings demolished
Four buildings built in 1978 are demolished to make space for a subway junction in Shanghai on Thursday. The buildings were the first high-rises built after the "Cultural Revolution" (1966-1976) in Shanghai.


Australian governor general visits city
AUSTRALIAN Governor General Michael Jeffery said in Shenzhen on Thursday that Shenzhen and Australia should cooperate more in the field of environmentally friendly resources, such as clean coal and solar power.
